About Us

The Challenge

Mathematical modeling is emerging as an important analytical and policy tool in Africa. With applications from infectious disease prevention and control to gender equality and food security, modeling has the potential to transform the public health landscape across the continent. It is imperative to establish a mathematical modeling community that is aligned with and adaptive to national and subnational health priorities, involves all stakeholders involved in the collection and use of data, and adheres to rigorous methodological standards to prevent mistrust in modeling-based policy decisions.

Our Response

The Health and Disease Modeling Coalition for Africa (HDMC-Africa) is a community of practice dedicated to strengthening the mathematical modeling ecosystem in Africa and beyond and ensuring collaborations amongst public health stakeholders. We develop and share open-source training modules and resources, facilitate knowledge-exchange networks, advocate for the role of mathematical modeling in public health decision-making.

Our Network

Our members and partners include academic institutions; government agencies; multi-lateral organizations; non-governmental, non-profit, and for-profit entities; and individual researchers, analysts, public health officials, and policymakers.

We strive to build an inclusive and diverse network of partners dedicated to strengthening all aspects of the mathematical modeling ecosystem in Africa. We welcome researchers, analysts, policymakers and government officials, educators, or any other individuals interested in applying modeling techniques to solve challenges from human, animal, or environmental health and disease to gender equality, food security, and climate change. If you share our goals and commitment to collective action, please contact us.
